THERAPY

If you’re feeling anxious or low or lost, if you’re struggling to cope with your thoughts and feelings, then therapy might be what you need.  Or you might not be experiencing difficulties right now, but you feel it’s the right time to dig a little deeper into long-standing issues.

Psychotherapy can help you to understand more about your thoughts, beliefs and values. It can help you to see where your emotions come from. In therapy, you’ll see how you can get stuck in patterns of behaviour that maybe helped at one point but now don’t help at all.  Just talking to a therapist who is there to support you can make a difference.  But therapy is more than just a sympathetic ear – you’ll explore ideas that can open your mind and let in new light.  You’ll practice techniques that can change the way you feel, and you can use those techniques every day or just in difficult situations.  You’ll actively collaborate in exploring your world and your inner self. You’ll see that this life is an open playground of experiment, where you can change.

I can help with:

  • Anxiety, panic and phobia
  • Low mood and depression
  • Stress and burnout
  • Low social confidence/social phobia
  • Adjustment to change
  • Anger, resentment and irritability
  • Self-doubt, loss of direction, self-dislike and low self-esteem
  • Relationship struggles, past relationship issues, current stresses
  • Overwhelm, disorganisation and ADHD-type lack of focus

The most important part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship.  You will make much better and more enduring progress if you feel confident and connected to your therapist.  That’s why it’s important to be able to have a quick conversation just to get a sense of whether we can work well together.

HYPNOTHERAPY

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis within a therapeutic framework.  But what is hypnosis?  Well, there is still some debate about that but one of the easiest ways to think of hypnosis is as a focused state of absorption, when you become detached from the outer world.  Everyday hypnosis might occur when you’re really drawn into a book or film, if you’re so engaged in some practical project that you don’t realise that hours have flown by.  Clinical hypnosis helps you to achieve that same absorbed focus.  It helps you to quiet your mind and take down habitual barriers to new possibilities.

There is nothing to be worried about in hypnosis – you stay in charge at all times.  It’s a relaxing process that is enjoyable and that you can learn as a skill to help you in future.  Get in touch for a free 15 minute call to see if hypnotherapy is for you.

Hypnosis is just a tool – it’s as good as the person who uses it. To use the tool skilfully, it’s necessary to be able to understand the problems that you bring to the session. The difficulties you bring have their own unique triggers that operate in your life. The problems are reinforced in a way that makes sense in your life. Once the underlying patterns start to become clear through therapeutic conversation, it is possible to develop hypnotic suggestions that will help you shift your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.  Quite rapid change is possible for some issues, though some deeper-rooted issues might need a longer therapeutic approach. You are an active partner in hypnosis – it is not a magic cure but it can give you the boost you need to make changes.

Issues that can be tackled with hypnotherapy include:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Low mood
  • Phobia and panic
  • Social phobia and low social confidence
  • Insomnia
  • Habitual behaviours like nail-biting, snacking, phone addiction
  • Anger, irritability and frustration
  • Lack of goals, drive and energy
